Drawings
In the main, my drawings are created with pastel, either in pencil or conventional soft form. A favourite subject
I have returned to a number of times over the years is the Westcountry hedge. The compromised growth forms
(created by many years of traditional care and maintenance) lend themselves to the deliberative process of drawing.
These detailed images will take many hours emerge, like working a tapestry.

I will more often than not alternate working in a drawing medium with working in paint. There is always a pull
to return to whichever medium I've not worked with for a while. Perhaps the halfway house though is the soft
pastel which lends itself to both drawing with control and the feeling of freedom found with a paint medium.
